It just seems like it's too early to be posting a craft for July 4th but I know it's just around the corner especially since I just checked the calendar and realized that school will be out in 2 1/2 weeks.
This was a great craft because it allowed the kids to be creative. I gave them the paper and templates and they came up with this design.
This is very easy and you can do this with your kids on a rainy day. It will take less than an hour, but you can extend the time if the kids do their own cutting for the stars.
There is a little bit of drying time for the paint.
I bought the crepe paper in the dollar store, but you can use construction paper. Just cut 2 inch strips of red, white and blue paper which you can use to wrap around the wreath.
You will need the following supplies:
- 1 styrofoam wreath
- crepe paper or construction paper (red, white and blue)
- card stock
- star shape cookie cutter
- craft glue or hot glue gun
- paint and/or glitter for the stars
- scissors
- ribbon to hang wreath
2. Trace stars on the card stock and cut them out. Cut out large stars and then a smaller size to glue together for dimension. Use paint or glitter to decorate the stars. (We only had time to put on three stars but you can fill up the wreath.)
3. Make streamers from the crepe paper or construction paper and glue to the back of the stars when the paint and glitter is dry.
4. When all the glue and paint had dried attach the stars with the streamers to the wreath and let dry. Attach a ribbon through the wreath for hanging.
This wreath is perfect to hang on the front door or in a window to celebrate Independence Day.
