This is a great costume for girls and so easy to make.
Using a white pillow case for Halloween costumes is a neat idea. The versatility of using a pillow case allows you the opportunity to be creative and imaginative.
I have 3 sons so I can't use this costume, but I got the idea to make this costume from my grandmother.
Years back my grandparents always went to Halloween costume parties and my grandmother made all of their costumes.
One year she made a candy corn costume, but she didn't use a pillow case. She was a great seamstress so she made it with fabric she bought specifically for her costume.
Now I can use a sewing machine but I'm not as equipped as my grandmother, so using a pillow case is the perfect solution. It's a no-sew costume and it's really easy.
You will need:
- white pillow case
- Yellow and orange acrylic paint
- foam paint brush
- scissors
- decorative ribbon & white glue
- To make the costume all you will need to do is measure your child using the pillow case to cut out the center of the case so that it can be slipped on easily over her head and cut an opening on each side for the armholes.
- Next lay out the pillow case flat on a protected surface and paint a yellow stripe on the bottom and then paint a little wider stripe in orange above the yellow - be sure to leave the top of the case white. Use a piece of candy corn to see how to proportion the colors.
- If you have it, glue some ribbon along the stripes for some glitz, or you can even use glitter if you like instead of the ribbon.
Happy Trick or Treating!
