Cork Board Tutorial

This is a quick and easy tutorial for the cork board the kids made in my arts and crafts class.

It's a great gift idea or a fun rainy day craft. And it's easy enough for the younger kids and the pre-teens and adults can be creative.

You will have to cut up the cardboard and cork in advance for the kids for safety then they can have fun gluing and designing their own boards.

Use a heavy duty corrugated cardboard for the backing which will hold the push pins.

We called this craft a 'cork board' because we used cork but this is a flexible project. You can use any material you choose -- cork, fabric, foamies, or even wallpaper you may have that matches your decor.

If you would like to keep this craft very low cost than using a large sheet of foam in a color of your choice or leftover wallpaper would be great options.

#1. Cut the cardboard to the size that you want. Then cut the cork or foam to the same size as the cardboard.

#2. Cover the cardboard with white glue using a foam paint brush and immediately attach the cork or the foamie to the cardboard. You might need to hold down the cork to the cardboard for a while until the glue dries and it adheres.

#3. While you are waiting for the glue to dry cut to size the trim you will be using. We used duck tape which works really well and makes this project quick.

If you use ribbon choose at least a 2" inch wide ribbon so that it covers both the front and back sides to seal it well and give it a nice finish.

#4. If you use ribbon you can mod podge it to the surface which will give it a nice finish - be sure to do both the front and back.

#5. Punch a hole in each corner on the top and using a very long shoe lace or ribbon thread it through each hole and tie a knot at the top for hanging.

This craft is very easy and the possibilities are endless. Here is another tutorial for a message board.

Enjoy!
