Do you have an abundance of magazines or paperbacks that everyone has read but you're still saving them 'just because'? Here's a way to take those fallen trees full circle by reusing and repurposing the paper to make trees....!
Not only will you be recycling and repurposing but you will also save money and have new holiday decorations.
If you or someone you know is having a holiday gathering these trees are a no cost way to decorate in a fun holiday style.
Start with a book or magazine. You will need to keep it bound so that the pages do not fall out. Take off the front and back covers as they are heavier than the paper pages.
First -- take the top right corner of the first page and fold it toward the center of the binding (the page will then be in a triangle form).
Second -- take that triangle and fold it again toward the center (now you will have a very narrow triangle.
Third -- the last step will be to take the excess paper that is at the bottom of the page and fold it upwards so that you have a clean triangle shaped page.
Continue with each page until you have the fullness you would like. I used an old text book using only about one-third of the book (remember to keep the binding in tact) and then I used 2 full magazines (the thinner $1.99 magazine).
Below is a slide show of the folding process which I hope helps.
Decorate the trees anyway you wish using whatever you have in your holiday decorations that can be repurposed or just leave them plain for an 'Americana' style.I liked the way the tree looked from the text book I used. I left it plain only adding some glitter and made a star shaped from a silver pipe cleaner which I hot glued to the top.
The trees made from the magazine were very colorful. I just used a little green paint mixed with white glue then lightly brushed the edges and sprinkled white glitter on them. I added the bead garland, wrapping it around the tree and the garland fell right into place.
This one tree had more green paint on it so I added a little shredded cotton for a snow capped look. This is so much fun to do and does not take very long. The kids can do this once you show them how to fold the pages.
Happy Holiday Crafting!

Thanks for linking up! I just love that tree. I can easily see my dd doing this with the magazine we get. She would never do it with a book. lol
