My son has been home sick from school for what seemed like forever.
On the days he felt well enough to stay up for the afternoon he wanted to jump around which was not going to happen so I sat with him to draw and paint.
He was getting bored after he painted a couple of pictures so I had to come up with something else. I pulled out my pile of yarn, grabbed the white glue and we went to work.
String art turned out to be enough to keep him busy. He had to think about what he wanted to make. With Valentine's Day coming soon he decided to make a heart and squiggles with dark pink yarn. This kept him occupied until he was ready to go back to bed and rest. In fact, when he woke up from his nap he came out and decided to add more squiggles on his project.
You can set up this craft for the kids to do on a rainy day or when they have a play date and are starting to get bored.
They can be creative and make any designs they want.
Here is all you need:
- poster board (it takes the glue better than construction paper)
- assorted color yarns (any size lengths you have will work)
- scissors
- mix white glue & water
- small dish to mix the glue & water
- Lay out the assorted yarn and dip each piece into the glue & water mixture. Pull up each piece of yarn from the glue and squeeze out the excess glue with your fingers.
- Place the string on the poster board and keep adding string to make a design. It takes a while before the glue dries so there is plenty of time to move the string around to make the design you want.
- Set the finished string art aside until it dries. It takes a few hours to dry completely (depending on how wet and saturated with glue the strips of yarn are).
Creativity Is Endless
